My Friend Kate, previously The Pierced Ear, was located at Four Seasons Town Center in Greensboro, NC from 1973 to 2014. In the spring of 2013 the business was relocated to the New Garden Road area and became My Friend Kate. September 2023 will mark their 50th year serving the Triad. My Friend Kate specializes in ear piercing and Concept's allergy free (nickel-free) earrings. They also sell Sterling Silver,  10 KT gold,  jewelry made by local artists, handbags, fashion jewelry, scarves and a huge selection of home decor and Christian themed gifts. They also provide services in monogramming and engraving.

The owner, Kate Cunningham, is known to her friends for being a woman of inspiration and spunk. When Kate has an idea, she really goes for it! As Kate says, "My Friend Kate just fell into my lap and it's been God's work that has gotten me here!"

Where did the name My Friend Kate come from? 

 

The owner Kate is blessed to be surrounded with friends who have always supported her. For many occasions, Kate's friends have come to her shop to search for special gifts for themselves and their friends. Over the years when asked where they found the beautiful or unique piece of jewelry or accessory, their response would always be, "my friend Kate!" Thus, the name was born.

How did Jeremiah 29:11-13 become your company's tagline?

 

When Kate was in her twenties and going through a rough period in her life, her father gave her a card with the scripture from Jeremiah 29:11 - For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."  When Kate opened My Friend Kate, she was taking a huge risk to step away from what she had always known and go in a different direction. Her life had experienced some radical changes in the previous year and through her faith she has found peace in this unpredictable world. Even with all the volatility in the current economy she can rest easy knowing that God is in control.  Proverbs 3:5
